Old Fashioned Sweet Shop with a Modern Twist
Sugar Shack : October 2011
You will find this little gem of a sweet shop at
26a Silver Street, Whitby. Once on Silver Street you cannot fail to find it because of its’ attractive brightly coloured shop front.
This new venture is owned by Jamie Jenkins, who is ably assisted by his mother, Anne.
Anne says that the inspiration for it came from her having 13 grandchildren, all of whom, naturally, enjoy eating sweets.
The Sugar Shack is an old fashioned sweet shop with a modern twist. The shelves are stacked with individual large jars of loose sweets, so after you have made your selection, the sweets are weighed and popped into paper bags. For older people, a visit to The Sugar Shack is like a trip down memory lane. Jamie has managed to track down suppliers of old favourites which have been enjoyed by generations of young and not so young sweet fans. It is a delight to find sweets like Kopp Kops, aniseed balls, coconut mushrooms, dolly mix, sweet tobacco, pear drops and liquorice wheels.
The outside seating area is like a little oasis, and has the benefit of the relaxing sound of a stunning feature waterfall. Enjoy a cup of tea or freshly ground Drury coffee, either to sit in or takeaway. Choose from house coffee, expresso, latte, americanos and capaccino. Jamie also stocks a selection of cold drinks. With winter approaching, you may sit inside while you enjoy a hot drink. There is access for the disabled, and pushchairs are also welcome.
Jamie also offers FREE Wi-Fi – with NO purchase necessary.
Coming Soon - Hallowe’en themed sweets and Christmas stocking fillers.
Special sweet baskets and hampers made to order – please speak to Jamie about your requirements.
The Sugar Shack is open 7 days a week from 10.00am until 5.30pm.
